Last night, your Rocks hosted the Noblesville Millers for the second week of the rivalry portion of the schedule. With the Midland Rail trophy on the line, the Rocks came away with a 28-21 victory. The win moves them to 4-0 on the season. Westfield started the game on defense for this one. The Rock D produced a stop, and the Shamrock offense blazed down the field for a Mikeah Webster score (Brody Boehm kick). With the Noblesville offense eating plenty of clock, 7-0 Rocks would represent the entirety of the first quarter action. The Millers tied things up early in the second quarter, but Westfield’s offense answered on their following drive. Jackson Gilbert punched this one in, taking the lead back for the Rocks (Boehm kick). The Rock D would force a punt on the next Miller possession, but Noblesville took it back with an interception of an errant Westfield throw. Westfield’s defense engineered a takeaway of their own, forcing and recovering a fumble before the Miller drive could gain any momentum. Westfield took advantage of the regained possession when Gilbert found Gabe Aramboles for a score in the waning seconds of the half (Boehm kick). Westfield would go into the break with a 21-7 lead. The Rocks received the ball to start the second half, but unfortunately fumbled it away early in the third. The Millers capitalized on the mistake, trimming the lead back to one score. The teams traded a pair of punts to round out the quarter, and the score would show 21-14 Rocks headed to the fourth. A long Miller score near the start of the quarter tied things back up. Westfield was unable to answer on offense, but an excellent Boehm punt pinned the Millers all the way back at the 2 yard line. The Rock D held firm, and Noblesville shanked a punt to set the Rocks back up deep in Miller territory. Gilbert found Webster for the go-ahead score (Boehm kick), and the Millers would get one more chance to match things with just over two minutes left to play. Noblesville would fumble a snap, and Samuel Poriah pounced on the ball, taking it back for Westfield with just over a minute to play. With the Millers having used their timeouts previously in the half, Westfield was able to kneel out the clock and secure their 28-21 victory. Next Friday, your Rocks will travel to Hamilton Southeastern to face the Royals. The Royals will be coming off their own rivalry win, and both teams will be looking to remain undefeated on the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM.
