JV Football Defeats New Palestine to Open Season, 27-14

The Rocks started their campaign off with a strong 27-14 victory over New Pal Saturday morning. The defense came to play from the opening snap and continued their strong play throughout the contest. They were led by strong defensive line play, including that of Alex MacDonald. Keegan Krupp provided consistent play from his linebacker spot throughout the game. The defense picked up some serious momentum with a big forced fumble by Riley Davison and Matthew Spencer and was recovered by Landon Porter. Offensively, the Rocks demonstrated their balance attack with strong showing both on the ground and through the air. A stellar performance was put in by Kaleb Darts with 3 TD receptions on the day. Consistent play was given by running back, Austin Umbaugh, and offensive linemen, Cash Ballard. A big play came in the second half when a long TD pass was thrown from Gavin McCall to Kaleb Darts . The Rocks specials teams units provided solid performances when called upon. Owen Wright performed his duties extremely well from his kicker position throughout the game and was aided by a consistent performance from Matthew Spencer. Owen Wright provided a shift of momentum when he put a punt inside the 5 yard line to flip the field position. The Rocks return to action next Saturday, August 26 at home against the Lawrence Central Bears.
