Last Friday, your Rocks hosted the Fishers Tigers for the Regional Championship. The Rocks didn’t give up the ship and earned the right to keep playing with a 20-10 victory. Westfield started on offense for this one, marching steadily down the field before stalling close enough for a Diego Herrera chip shot to put them up 3-0. The Tigers answered with a long drive of their own, but also had to settle for a field goal when the Rock D stiffened. Two drives and a tie ball game took us quickly over to the second quarter. Westfield put together another solid drive, and another Herrera field goal to go back up by 3, this one from 41 yards out. Fishers attempted another answer-in-kind, but the Rock D came up with a big pair of sacks from Zane Newman and Wade Washo to knock the Tigers out of field goal range. A desperate heave was broken up in the end zone, and Rocks took back over on down. The Shamrock offense went back to work, and a couple of long Cooper Melvin runs set up a Baylor Conner punch-in (Herrera kick). The Rocks would take a 13-3 advantage into the break. The Rocks started the second half on defense, and got the first stop to set the tone. The teams traded a couple of punts, with Noah Lee uncorking a couple of great ones for Westfield, before the game quickly moved into the final period. The Rocks looked to preserve their 13-3 lead. The Rock D got another stop to start the fourth, and Westfield’s offense marched down the field to extend the lead. Aiden Grabowski ran it in from 15 yards out to put the Rocks up 20-3 (Herrera kick). The Tigers answered with a score of their own, however, trimming things back to 10. Grabowski led the offense with a couple gritty runs to eat clock and close things out. Fishers would get the ball back with only 1:24 left to play. They tried to move quickly through the air, but the Rock D broke things up and forced a turnover on downs. Westfield’s offense came out to take a knee, locking in the Regional Championship and a 20-10 win. Next Friday, your Rocks will travel up to Fort Wayne to face the Carroll Chargers for the north 6A final four game. The Chargers defeated Penn in their regional contest and sport a 9-3 record. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
