The WHS wrestlers had a solid showing at the toughest Semi-state in Indiana. The Rocks advanced 5 wrestlers to the quarter finals to start the day (Braxton Vest, Dylan Driver, Carson Eldred, Dakota Arvin, and Mike Platonov). After a hard fought quarter finals Dylan Driver and Carson Eldred punched their ticket to the state finals in consecutive weights.
Carson Eldred, advancing to 39-2 on the season won, his first 2 matches by fall in the first 90 seconds of the match. In the semi-finals Carson picked up another fall in the 2nd period over #10 ranked Anthony Hughes of Lawrence North. The finals match was a back-and-forth match vs undefeated #1 ranked Zeke Seltzer (Cathedral). Carson scored the first takedown, tied the match in the 2nd period, and eventually was defeated 10-6.
The breakout performance of the day came from junior Dylan Driver at 113. After placing 3rd at sectionals, and 3rd at regionals, Driver had an incredible Semi-state. Driver won his first match 6-1, to get a shot at #14 Kody Githero (Roncalli) in the quarter finals. Driver grinded out a tough win (2-1) to punch his ticket to the state finals. Dylan dropped a tough semi-finals match to #4 Elijah Anthony (Frankfort). His breakout performance came in the 3rd/4th place match. Driver lined up to wrestle #12 Brac Hooper (Carmel). Dylan was 0-4 against Hooper this season, however he saved his best performance for for the post-season. After a scoreless 1st period Driver found an escape, takedown, and 2 nearfall points to take the lead 5-0. Dylan hung on in the 3rd period to eventually win 5-3.
Carson and Dylan will be wrestling at the State Finals on Friday and Saturday at Banker’s LIfe Fieldhouse.
