The Westfield Girls Track team took part in the prestigious Zionsville Invite on Friday, April 26th. Finishing 6th, the team showed its mettle as it prepared to start a long postseason run. To highlight the night, senior captain Zoe Pentecost set the new school discus throw record at 122′ 9″. The previous record, 119′ 0″, set by LaTanya Fryarson, had stood as the all time best at Westfield since 2003 — 15 years. Pentecost’s great mark earned her a first place finish. Zoe also set a new personal best in the shot put, throwing fo 36′ 10.5″ and a 6th place finish.
Other notable finishes in the track meet included the 4×800 relay squad. Their time of 9:58.58 was strong enough for a second place finish. Sophomore Haley Boehm leapt her way to 6th place in the 100 M Hurdles with a time of 16.40. The 4 x 100 relay team finished in third place with their time of 51.32., and the 4 x 400 squad finished in 4th, running their race in a time of 4:15.87. In the long jump sophomore Madeline Ferreri finished 6th, with a big jump of 15′ 10.25″.
The Rocks will be back in action this Tuesday, April 30th, at the Hoosier Crossroads Conference championships hosted by Hamilton Southeastern High School.
