The boys track team had a solid night at the Hamilton County Championships Thursday night. The highlight was two county champions with Cooper Boehm winning the 110 hurdles, and the 4×100 relay of Alex Kukura, Mario Chalmers, Mason Piening, and Francis Agbo taking the win in a close three way battle. In the 4×800 relay, the all sophomore grouping of Tyler Smith, Josh Springborn, Robby Bogdajewicz, and Joe Harris finished 3rd, with all 4 boys running best ever relay splits.
Other fine performances were turned in by Mahamat Djour and David Mannella, both of whom ran under 4:30 for dual PRs and 3rd and 4th place finishes in the 1600. Calvin Grenda was back after injury to finish as the runner up in the 300 hurdles, and Justin Homberg, also fresh off an injury, was 3rd in the 400. Alex Kukura also had a great night, finishing 3rd in the 100, in addition to the 4×100, and he led off the 4×400 relay finishing with a season best time and a 4th place along with Homberg, Djour, and Grenda. Max Gutwein also ran a PR in the open 800, finishing 5th, and Noah Douthit had a great race in the 800 as well.
In the field events, the throwers had the most impressive night. Jacob Netral was county runner up in the discus, while Colin Caldwell, just off an injury, finished 6th. Then Netral scored again in the shot put with a 4th place finish, while Alex Juarez PRed and also scored in the shot. Jonathan Frey also took home a point in the pole vault with a PR performance.
The boys are back in action next Thursday at the IHSAA Carmel Sectional.
