The Westfield boys track and field team had an outstanding Regional at Lafayette Jefferson High School Thursday night, finishing 8th of the 18 teams that scored points, and producing many personal bests and two state qualifiers.

The best finish of the evening belonged to Peyton Haack, who recovered from a fall due to a broken pole in the warm up for pole vault, to go 15′ 4″ finishing 2nd and qualifying for the state meet. The 4×800 relay of Nick Leahy, David Mannella, Jacob Mears, and Charles Miller, finished 5th in this outstanding meet, running a season best time by 4 seconds and automatically qualifying for the state meet by running the state standard.

In the 200, Alex Kukura narrowly missed finals with an outstanding PR run, going under 23 seconds for the first time in his career–outstanding for this sophomore with a huge future. Calvin Grenda also ran a PR in the 300 hurdles by a half second firmly putting himself in the conversation as a state qualifier for next season. Nick Leahy will be the fastest non-state-qualifier in the 800, having run an outstanding 1:57.

Peyton and the 4×800 are back in action next Saturday at the Robert C. Haugh Track and field facility at Indiana University in Bloomington. Haack will begin vaulting at 3:00, and the 4×800 will run at 4:15.
