The Westfield boys track team had an outstanding evening Thursday, finishing 4th in the IHSAA Carmel Sectional. The evening started on a high note, as the 4×800 relay of Nick Leahy, David Mannella, Jacob Mears, and Charles Miller won the sectional championship and automatically qualified for the Regional. Peyton Haack was the other champion of the evening, winning the pole vault. Other automatic qualifiers for the Regional included Miller in the 400 (2nd) and Leahy in the 800 (3rd), as well as Colin Caldwell in the shot put (3rd), and the 4×400 relay of Leahy, Mahamet Djour, Calvin Grenda, and Miller (3rd).
Several other athletes will advance to the Regional as one of the best next 4 qualifiers in the 4 sectionals that feed the Lafayette Jefferson Regional. They include Alex Kukura in the 200, Cooper Boehm in the 110 hurdles, Calvin Grenda in the 300 hurdles, Noah Douthit in the 1600, and the 4×100 relay of Owen McGraw, Cooper Boehm, Alex Kukura, and Dorian Henson.
The team will next compete in the IHSAA Lafayette Jefferson Regional next Thursday.
