The boys track and field team ran Hoosier State Relays qualifiers on Friday and Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University, and put themselves in a good position to have several performers at the indoor state meet. The 4×800 of Mahamat Djour, Max Gurwein, Kai Connor, and Jacob Beene ran a fast 8:20.45 on Friday to rank 3rd in the state after the first weekend of qualifying. The DMR of Joe Barnett, Calvin Grenda, Djour, and Noah Douthit ran well on Saturday, and currently hold the state’s 6th best time. The 4×400 of Alex Kukura, Justin Homberg, Jacob Beene, and Kai Connor pulled the state’s 8th best time in the 4×400, while the 4×200 of Kukura, Mason Piening, Carson Voorhis, and Christiaan Huisden currently sit in 16th after Friday night’s performance. Cooper Boehm had a great 60 hurdles race and is currently ranked 8th in the state.
Other good performances were turned in by Jacob Netral in the shot put, Kyler Koning in the 3200, Amarion Ballard in the hurdles, and Mario Chalmers in the 60 dash.
The Shamrocks are back in action next Saturday at the University of Indianapolis in the HCC Invitational, another HSR qualifying event.
