Monday’s non-conference game at Hartman Field was moved to Grand Park due to wet field conditions. The Rocks jumped out to a 1-0 lead on back to back doubles by Trey Anderson and Bryce Dorton. The Greyhounds answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Then, in the top of the second inning, the Rocks exploded for five runs to take a 6-2 lead. Carmel tacked on a run in the fourth, and then in the sixth they scored two runs to pull to within a run before Parker Bard entered the game on the mound in the 7th. Bard slammed the door shut on the Greyhounds by striking out three Hounds to end the game with the tying run on second base. Tyler Smitherman started on the mound for Westfield, pitching 4 innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out five. Offensively, the Rocks ten hit attack was led by Bryce Dorton who was 2 for 4 with two doubles and 3 RBI. Trey Anderson was 2 for 4 with a double and Luke Hutson was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI. The Rocks are off until Thursday when they will host the Fishers Tigers to open a HCC series at Shamrock Field at 6pm.
