The Rocks hosted the Brownsburg Bulldogs at Shamrock Field Friday night as they went for the HCC Series sweep. Westfield jumped out to a quick five run lead after the first inning. In the fourth inning, the Bulldogs scored five unearned runs to take the lead 7-6 but the Rocks answered back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 7-7 until the 9th inning. Brownsburg scored a run in the top of the 9th to take the 8-7 lead but the Rocks stayed alive in the bottom of the 9th when Park Bard beat the tag at the plate on a contact play to tie the game back up at 8-8. In the 10th, the Rocks got two quick outs to start the inning before the wheels fell off and Brownsburg scored four runs en route to the 12-8 victory. Josh Stegner pitched 1.2 innings of relief, striking out two while Mason Cox pitched 4 innings of solid relief, allowing just one earned run and striking out four. Offensively, the Rocks had 8 hits, all singles. Austin Wessel followed up his 4 for 4 night on Thursday with a 2 for 5 night at the plate. Tyler Smitherman also was 2 for 5 on the night. With the loss, the Rocks are now 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in HCC play. They will travel to Carmel to play the Greyhounds in a non-conference game at Hartman Field at 5:30p.
