Westfield traveled to Avon Thursday night to open an HCC series with the Orioles. Avon jumped on the Rocks early scoring six runs in the first three innings to build a 6-1 lead. In the sixth, the Rocks pulled to within striking distance when Sam Eaton delivered a two run home run to make the score 6-3 but that was as close as they would come and fell 6-3 in game one of the series. Matthew Robinson started for Westfield and pitched three innings allowing just three earned runs and striking out four. Tyler Smitherman entered in the fourth and pitched well for the Rocks, shutting out the Orioles the rest of the game while striking out two. Zach Collins had two doubles on the day and Bryce Dorton had two hits including a double. The Rocks sit in third place in the HCC with five conference games left on their schedule. Avon will travel to Westfield tonight for game two in the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6p.
