The Rocks opened an HCC series with Hamilton Southeastern last Thursday at Ken Seitz Field. Senior Matthew Robinson toed the rubber for the Rocks and gave them an outstanding performance, pitching six innings while allowing just two runs and striking out nine to earn the win. Logan McClurg recorded the save with a scoreless 7th inning. Offensively, McClurg got the Rocks on the board with a solo home run. Then, in the 4th inning, Eli Patchett delivered a clutch two-out two run single to put the Rocks on top for good with the final score 3-2.
In game two, Zach Zaborowski started for Westfield and turned in a great outing for the Rocks. Zaborowski was very efficient, pitching six innings on only 74 pitches while allowing just one run and striking out eight. Offensively, the Rocks put two on the board in the first and added another run in the 5th on a double steal. The Rocks were led by Logan McClurg, Bryce Dorton and Zach Collins who each had a hit. Collins added an RBI.
In game three, the Rocks gave up a run in the first to the Royals and then answered with their own in the 3rd but the Royals answered right back to take the lead back. In the fifth, the Rocks tied the game. Then in the bottom of the seventh, HSE won in walk off fashion on a sac fly to right field. Matthew Meyer started for the Rocks and pitched very well, scattering five hits over six innings while allowing two unearned runs and striking out five. Offensively, Trey Anderson, Logan McClurg, Matthew Meyer and Zach Collins each doubled in the game. The loss put the Rocks at 5-5 on the season and 5-4 in HCC play.
