It was a cold series, but that didn’t stop the Rocks from a hot start to the season. In game one, the Eagles led 4-0 until the 5th inning when the Rocks scored 4 runs to tie the game. The Eagles answered right back with a run in the bottom half of the inning and the Rocks answered again with one in the sixth to tie the game 5-5. Then, in the sixth the #4 Eagles scored two runs to put the Rocks away and win 7-5. Zach Zaborowski started the game for the Rocks and had a solid outing, allowing two earned runs in four innings of work while striking out two. Offensively the Rocks had just two hits, a double by Sam Eaton and a triple by Bryce Dorton.
In game two, The Rocks trailed early 3-0 but then used two four-run innings en route to a 9-5 victory over the 4th ranked Zionsville Eagles. Matthew Robinson started for the Rocks and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing 5 runs and striking out two. Trey Anderson delivered 2.1 innings of solid relief, not allowing a run and striking out four. Offensively, the Rocks were led by Matthew Meyer and Bryce Dorton who each had two hits in the game. Trey Anderson, Kyle Pepiot and Meyer each had a triple in the game.
In the rubber game of the series, the Rocks and Eagles had an intense back-and-forth affair with six lead changes before the Rocks scored two in the top of the 7th to take the lead for good and then slammed the door shut in the bottom half to win 10-9. The win gave the Rocks the HCC Series win over the 4th ranked Eagles. Matthew Meyer started for Westfield and allowed six runs over four innings of work while striking out six. Offensively, Zach Collins had the big day going 3 for 3 with a double, home run and 6 RBI. Luke Hutson, Trey Anderson and Matthew Meyer each doubled as well. The win put the Rocks at 2-1 on the season and in HCC play.
