The Westfield Lady Rocks Track and Field team made history at the 44th annual IHSAA State Finals held June 3rd at Indiana University. All three finalists that the Rocks entered took home a medal. Highlighting the historic performance was the senior captain, Emily Robertston, who became the first ever hurdler (male or female) to medal for the Rocks in the state finals. Robertson answered the call in her specialty event, the 100 M Hurdles. Making the finals with a time of 14.85, Emily finished ninth overall. Emily made her presence felt once more as she took the track with the ninth place 4 x 400 M relay team. The relay squad consisted of Robertson, who led off, followed by the freshman Hannah Fife and senior Gabrielle Brown, and finished off with the junior Sydney Spears at the anchor, who ran a 57.1. Spears had already anchored the sixth place 4 x 800 M relay team as well, having run a 2:16 in her portion of the race. She followed up the fantastic efforts of senior captain Lauren Bailey, Gabrielle Brown, and Gabrielle Dilick. The Rocks want to thank these young ladies for their fantastic efforts and wish the seniors great luck in their future endeavors, especially Gabrielle Brown, Emily Robertson (both running at Indiana State University), and Lauren Bailey (University of Indianapolis). The coaches would also like to say thank you to all the young ladies who took part on the team this year. Thank you for making this such a special season. We are very excited to keep developing as a team for next year!
