Concluding the best season in their history, the Westfield Boys Track and Field team competed at the IHSAA State Finals Friday night in a performance that produced several medalists. The evening began with an all state performance as the 4×800 meter relay team of Charles Miller, Desmond Herrell, Nick Leahy, and Aaron Bennett garnered 4th place medals. Evan Manley then advanced to the 200 meter finals, where he then won an 8th place medal. In the 300 hurdles, Justin Mamaril had a great race to snatch a 6th place medal despite running in the 2nd heat. The scoring for the Shamrocks concluded with an 8th place medal in the 4×400 meter relay from Peyton Haack, Miller, Mamaril, and Bennett. Also qualifying for the state meet were Dainon Wray in the 300 hurdles, Haack in the pole vault and Bennett in the 800.
This fine season was the result of tough, hard-working athletes working with dedicated and knowledgeable coaches Josh Miracle, Josh Wachtel, Shauna Nosler, Katie Evans, Denver Wade, Elvin Caldwell, Matt Comer, Birch Dalton, Bob Orr, and Roger Wachtel.
The Shamrocks next meet is the Indiana Wesleyan HSR Qualifier on March 2, 2018.
