The Westfield Rocks entered the IHSAA womenâs 44th annual state track and field tournament understanding that the stakes for each athlete had been raised. The mandate: win or go home. The response: overwhelming competitive spirit and great results as the Rocks sent ladies from four events onto the regionals at Lafyette Jefferson High School. Two girls placed first outright in their individual events. Both captains, Jada Caldwell and Emily Robertson appeared dominant in the shot put and the 100 M hurdles respectively. Caldwell muscled out the shot to a winning distance of 41â 00.75â; Robertson once again broke her own personal best running a 14.86 to her sectional title. Robertson also placed third in the 300 M hurdles, running a 47.10. The Rocks 4×800 team also looked superior, running their way to a third place finish. Together, the squad of Hannah Fife, Gabrielle Brown, Lauren Bailey, and Gabrielle Dilick produced a time of 9:46.84. Other events receiving callbacks to the regional competition due to their performances included the 4 x 100 relay team composed of Ava Henson, Hannah Fife, Sydney Spears, and Alison Bullock. The 4 x 400 team will also move on, as Gabrielle Brown, Hannah Fife, Sydney Spears, and Emily Robertson put on dominating performances. In the feel-good story of the year, senior captain Audrey Bullock returned to the pole vault after a year almost cut completely short due to a foot injury. With her leap of 10 feet, she will also be advancing to the regional competition at Lafayette Jefferson on Tuesday, May 23rd.
