The Rocks finished up Hoosier Crossroads Conference play with a three game series with the second ranked Fishers Tigers. In game one, the potent Tiger offense was too much for the Rocks as they pounded out ten hits en route to a 10-0 victory. Logan McClurg had two of the Rocks three hits, going 2 for 2 and Zach Collins added a hit as well.
In game two, the Rocks send Brian Skelton to the mound and he gave the Rocks a solid outing pitching five innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out six. Sam Eaton relieved Skelton in the sixth and pitched two frames allowing an earned run and struck out one. The Tigers scored two in the second inning and the game remained 2-0 until the sixth when the Rocks scored one run off a Jason Gabennesch double and had runners on second and third before a ground out to third ended the threat. Fishers scored a run in the 7th to go on to win 3-1 over the Rocks. The win was the first time Fishers had won at Shamrock Field in 10 years. Westfield had four hits on the day and were led by Sam Eaton who was 2 for 3 with a double.
In the series finale, the Rocks held a 3-0 lead until the 5th inning when the Tigers scored four runs and then scored another four runs in the 6th to win 8-4 and sweep the Rocks. Matthew Robinson started for Westfield and pitched a gem, pitching 4.1 innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out three. Logan McClurg and Sam Eaton led the way offensively. McClurg, who had a great series at the plate, was 3 for 3 with a triple. Eaton was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. The sweep ended HCC play for the Rocks where they went 7-11. Westfield will now travel to Kokomo to take on the fourth ranked Wildkats at Kokomo’s Municipal Stadium at 6p Monday.
