On April 11th, the Westfield Rocks Girls Varsity Track team roared back to action after returning from spring break traveling to nearby Zionsville High School for a dual meet. The Rocks produced some great performances, most notably the leading scorer of the meet, thrower Jada Caldwell. Caldwell placed first in the shot put at 38′ 10″ and second in the discus with a sling of 97′ 6.5″. She produced eight points for the Rocks. Erianna Ballard stepped up to the plate and answered the call in the short sprints for a total of 6 points. She won the 100 M Dash with a time of 13.6 Seconds and placed 3rd in the 200 at 29.43 seconds. Teammate Sydney Spears won the 200 with a time of 27.04 seconds. Other noted performers included Emily Robertson who won the 100 M Hurdles with a time of 15.53 seconds. Gabrielle Brown won the 400 with her time of 1:03.4 seconds. New personal bests were set by many Rocks athletes. One noted performer is Michaela Grimes, who shattered her former personal best in the shot put, throwing over a foot further from her previous record for a second place finish of 32′ 1.5″. The Rocks will have a busy week as distance runners will head to the Franklin Central Showcase on Friday, April 14th, while the sprinters will make the trip to Lafayette Jefferson’s Sprint Showcase. The entire Rocks team will be on display the next day as on Saturday, April 15th, Westfield will host the inaugural annual Westfield-Zionsville Invite.
