Westfield was matched up against the Chesterton Trojans in the semi-final round of the Greyhound Invitational on Saturday. The Trojans scored five runs in the first two innings and then added another four runs late in the game to defeat the Rocks 9-0 and advance to the Championship game. The Rocks scattered seven hits in the game, but couldn’t get the big hit and Chesterton made some crucial plays to stop Westfield’s momentum at times. Ryan Pepiot led the Rocks with a 2 for 3 effort.
In the consolation game, Westfield faced off against South Dearborn. The Rocks scored four runs over the last three innings and held South Dearborn to just four hits in the game to earn the shutout win 4-0. Ryan Pepiot started for the Rocks and was magnificent, pitching 6 innings while allowing just three hits and no earned runs. Pepiot also struck out six. Logan McClurg pitched one inning of relief, giving up one hit and striking out one. Offensively, the Rocks were led by Logan Schneider who went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI and Harrison Freed who went 2 for 4 with a triple. Milo Beam was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and an electrifying inside the park home run. The win closes out the regular season for Westfield who wrapped up with a 13-15 record. The Rocks closed out the end of the season with a 13-7 run after starting out 0-8 and finished 4th in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference. Westfield drew Hamilton Southeastern (19-8, 3rd place in HCC) in the first round of the IHSAA state tournament on Thursday at 8pm.
