Meet Recap

The Westfield Girls Golf Team traveled to South Grove Golf Course in Indianapolis on Friday to defend their Sectional Championship and it took all five players to make that accomplishment happen. Westfield and Carmel both finished with an excellent score of 300 but the Rocks emerged victorious by the fifth score tiebreaker.

After nine holes the Rocks found themselves down by 11 strokes and it took everything they had to make a charge on the back nine to finish with a tie. The charge was led by Adrienne Montalone who finished individually in second place. Montalone gained six strokes back for the team in the last 5 holes. Morgan Baechle, who finished with a personal best 77, also played a major role in that as she gained five strokes in her last 6 holes.

After the first four scores were reported the Rocks found themselves tied with Carmel and it came down to the fifth score to break that tie. Emma Clary hit a great drive down the 18th fairway, stuck an iron shot on the middle of the green and two putted for par to finish two strokes ahead of Carmels fifth player.

Individually for the Rocks Adrienne Montalone led the team with an even par 70. Cailyn Henderson finished fourth overall with a 74. Morgan Baechle finished fifth individually with a 77. Margaret Wentz finished with a solid score of 79 and Emma Clary had her second best round of the year with a 92.

The Team will now travel to Smock Golf Course next Saturday to compete in Regionals in hopes of being one of the three teams to advance to the State Championship.
