Saturday, September 13th, the Westfield Girls Cross Country team competed at the Ben Davis XC Invitational. In the Varsity race, Devon Leahy, Lauren Bailey, Gabby Brown, Gabby Dilick, and Elizabeth Cronin all scored points for the Shamrocks, earning them a third place finish at the invitational. Leahy ran a 18:39.0, averaging a 6:01 mile, earning her 8th overall. Bailey was right behind Leahy, finishing 9th overall and earning a new personal best of 19:02.1. Madison Smith earned a new personal best of 20:33, running over thirty seconds faster than last weekâs invitational.
On the JV side for the Shamrocks, 14 girls earned a new personal best. The Rocks took second overall, placing seven runners in the top thirty. Sarah Pensyl and Carly Bogdajewicz finished fourth and fifth, only .4 seconds a part. Bogdajewicz ran a new PR of 20:46.6. Ashley Senerios, Laura Susnak, Sara Hamlet, Maggie McAndrews, and Caitlyn Pittsford rounded out the top seven of the JV race, all earning a new PR. With the top seven leading the way for the JV, the other girls followed suit and raced competitively. Nicole Edginton, Ali Becker, Emma Burgan, Reilly Woehler, Tiffany Hendricks, Corley Cuppy, Bela Kennedy, and Sarah Fitzpatrick all took a risk during this race and showed what it means to be a Rock, which led each of them to new PR. Saturday was a great day to be a Rock. Westfield will use this momentum as they head into the week and will race again Saturday, September 19th at Flashrock.
