The 2015 Shamrocks open up tonight at Hartman Field against the Carmel Greyhounds. The Rocks enter the season receiving votes in the IHSBCA preseason poll and ranked 19th by Indiana Prep Baseball Report. This year’s club will feature some familiar faces but many new ones as nine seniors graduated from the 2014 club that was ranked #1 in the state for two weeks and finished 4th in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference. Offensively, the Shamrocks return five full time starters from a team that hit .286 and averaged 5.4 runs per game in ’14. The Rocks will field a four-year starter behind the plate and return the entire outfield from last year, two of which are NCAA Division I commits. The infield will have to be rebuilt completely, fielding a new starter in every position. The Rocks pitching staff has depth and talent, returning 101 innings on the mound from the 2014 club. Expectations are high as always for this year’s club to continue the success and tradition of Westfield baseball. For the Rocks to reach the expectations of a HCC championships and a state title, players will have to handle pressure well, new players will have to step into their roles, seniors will have to provide great leadership and, most importantly, everyone will have to persevere through adversity and pull on the same end of the rope.
