Multiple Teams · Raiders Upset #1 Rocks

On Wednesday evening, the Rocks resumed play after a ten day lay-off by traveling to Lafayette Harrison for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference opener with the Raiders.  Harrison jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Rocks responded with five runs in the top of the second.  The Raiders answered back with two in the bottom half and then four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-5 lead.  Westfield tied the game in the top of the 5th inning with two runs, but the Raiders responded once again, taking the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth as the Rocks were upset 9-7 in the HCC opener.  Luke Dietz started and pitched three and two-thirds innings before giving way to Max McCool and then Zach Smitherman.  Smitherman pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one.  Offensively, the Rocks were led by Nick Ferrer who was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI on the night.  Jacob Robinson added two hits and Cole McCrary blasted a solo home run.  The Rocks will look to rebound and close out the HCC series with Harrison tonight at Shamrock Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:30pm.
