Westfield hosted the 8th ranked McCutcheon Mavericks on Thursday. The game, which saw a 45 minute rain delay, turned out to be an old fashioned pitcher’s duel. Luke Dietz started for the Rocks and pitched five outstanding innings, allowing only two hits and striking out three. With the game tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the second, Nathan Manworren singled and then advanced to third on a Bailey Partlow single. Chris Ayers then delivered a hit off the centerfield fence that scored Manworren. Ayers was ruled out on the play as he passed Bailey Partlow on the base path. Ayers toed the rubber again in the 7th and shut the door on the Mavs for the 1-0 win. Ayers pitched two innings of relief to earn the win. Bailey Partlow was 2 for 3 on the night and accounted for half of Westfield’s hits on the evening. The Rocks are now 16-5 overall and 12-2 in HCC play. They have a two game lead in the HCC with four games to play. Westfield will now play Northwestern in the first game of the Shamrock Slugfest tomorrow at 10am. The Rocks will be honoring the seniors in a ceremony just prior to first pitch of the game.
