The Rocks used exceptional pitching performances to sweep an HCC series against HSE over the weekend. On Friday, the two teams were tied at 1-1 until the 8th inning when the Rocks scored three runs to win 4-1. Chris Ayers pitched seven innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out five to earn the win. Jake Dietz pitched an inning, striking out one to earn the save. Bailey Partlow, Cole McCrary, Chase Shaw and Jacob Robinson each had an RBI on the evening. On Saturday, the two squared off again at Shamrock Field. This time it took nine innings to decide the contest as the Rocks stranded 12 base-runners on the day. In the bottom of the ninth, Jackson Freed led off with a single. Milo Beam pinch ran for Freed and advanced to second base on a Jake Dietz sacrifice bunt. Chris Ayers delivered a game winning single scoring Beam from second base. Jackson Freed, Bailey Partlow and Chris Ayers each had two hits on the day. Luke Dietz pitched an absolute gem, going the distance on only 90 pitches for the shutout win while striking out five. The sweep puts the Rocks at 10-2 in HCC play with a one game lead over McCutcheon.
